Project Overview
A Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) provides a plan to address the future transportation needs of the county. In accordance with federal requirements and to reflect the ever-changing transportation needs and future development within a region, the LRTP is typically updated every five years.
The Polk County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is currently updating its LRTP: Envision 2050. The LRTP was last updated in 2020. Envision 2050 is a vision for the future of Polk County’s transportation system and sets the framework for transportation planning and investments over the next 25 years. This long-range look at future investments will allow Polk County to work towards will have a safer and efficient transportation system. The LRTP facilitates a countywide, cooperative planning process that serves as the basis for spending county, regional state, and federal transportation funds for improvements to roads, bridges, public transit, freight routes, trails and bicycle and pedestrian networks.
We Need Your Input!
An LRTP is shaped by public input, and Envision 2050 is no different. In order to shape a transportation system that suits our community, we need to hear from you: what is working, what isn’t, and what your aspirations for the future of the region are. We are seeking public input to assist the Envision 2050 team in developing goals, objectives, and policies, and to understand community preferences and priorities for the future. We want Polk County’s transportation system to meet the needs of all users.

Construction on improvements identified in the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan are not yet programmed for design and construction. The Comprehensive Safety Action Plan sets the stage for the City to apply for construction funding to fix the issues identified by the plan. Identifying what is wrong is step one and then implementing the solutions is step two. The application period for construction grants occurs every year, so once the City’s Comprehensive Safety Action Plan is completed and adopted, the City can immediately start applying for construction grants once those application periods are available.
