What is Savannah MOVES?
Savannah MOVES is the first multi-modal transportation implementation plan focused specifically on the City of Savannah. Savannah MOVES will focus on the needs of City residents, business transportation infrastructure needs, and critical local projects to support regional and state plans.
Savannah MOVES will build on the Coastal Region (CORE) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Master Transportation Plan 2050. This coordination will avoid duplication and overlap with existing studies while providing an essential tool for the City’s continued partnership with the Chatham County - Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) and CORE MPO in meeting the accelerated growth and demand in the coastal region.
The goals of public participation for Savannah MOVES are to:
- Actively engage residents and other parties in the planning process.
- Ensure that those interested in the project have adequate, appropriate, and meaningful opportunities to participate.
- Utilize the Coordinating Committee and Policy Committee to reach interested parties in the City of Savannah.
The engagement process will follow the planning process through three phases – Small Area Transportation Plans, Savannah MOVES Plan Development, and Implementation and Documentation. The graphic on the following page illustrates how community engagement will be interwoven with the plan development.
